Héroes de Arica

El 7 de junio todos los peruanos celebramos el día de la Bandera del Perú. Conmemoramos así a nuestros valerosos hombres que, no rindiéndose ante el ejército chileno, se animaron a enfrentarlos en Arica allá por el año 1880. Nuestro valeroso coronel Franciso Bolognesi fue quien organizó y dirigió la defensa peruana en Arica.
El mismo 7 de junio se inició el asalto chileno, la resistencia final se dio encontrando a su paso a Bolognesi, More, Alfonso Ugarte y Saenz Peña, entre otros valientes peruanos incapaces de dar marcha atrás a la hora de defender nuestra bandera. Algunos de ellos se inmolaron, como el heróico Alfonso Ugarte quien tuvo a su cargo la defensa del Morro de Arica. Mucho se especula sobre si se arrojó voluntariamente o no del morro con la bandera peruana. Sin embargo, hay que resaltar que en este acto no radica el mérito patriótico de Ugarte, sino en que siempre estuvo interesado en la defensa de su país, dejando de lado una vida privilegiada.
Aprendamos de estos hombres y defendamos hoy en día nuestra bandera bicolor, no hay necesidad de arrojarnos del morro, pero sí de amar y respetar a nuestros íconos nacionales.

The June 7, all Peruvians celebrate Flag Day in Peru. Thus commemorate our brave men, not surrendering to the Chilean army, dared to face them in Arica back in 1880. Our brave Colonel Francisco Bolognesi who organized and led the Peruvian defense in Arica.
The same June 7 Chilean assault began, the final resistance he found his way to Bolognesi, More, Alfonso Ugarte and Saenz Peña, among other brave Peruvians unable to turn back time to defend our flag. Some of them blew themselves as the heroic Alfonso Ugarte who was responsible for the defense of the "Morro de Arica". There is much speculation about whether or not he voluntarily threw himself from the morro with the Peruvian flag.
